The island of Clipperton is located in the Pacific ocean, to 1200 km off the coasts of Mexico. This 3 km diameter closed atoll, where only crabs can live, is a single place of research for the scientists. Its name comes from the English freebooter and naturalist John Clipperton who disembarked on the island in 1704.
Besides, it is also a rock music band from Fribourg, Switzerland.
Resulting from the Nineties rock scene, the three members of Clipperton took part in many collective and individual projects.
Each of them acquired their musical experience from concerts in Switzerland and Europe, albums or various productions.
The band, formed in 2005, represents the return on the musical scene of 3 members of Soap TV band, 5 years after they split. Because they know each other for a long time, the members of this new formation, a trio this time, quickly set up a repertory of original songs they present for the first time on scene at the end of 2006.
2007 was devoted, besides some concerts in Switzerland, to affirm the style and to record 5 titles which represent the music of Clipperton.
This music (rock, power-pop or even rock-disco music, is sung in English and is inspired by various British and American tendencies.
Affirmed guitar riffs, sharp or vintage colored voice, powerful grooves and often dancing rhythms are the secrets of Clipperton.
In 2008, 5 new songs are recorded. They are published in free access on the internet.
The band keeps playing on stage and writing new songs. The result is a 11 songs album. “Blighted paradise” is available May 30th 2009.

A part ça, c'est aussi un groupe de rock originaire de Fribourg, Suisse.
Issus de la scène rock des années 90, les trois membres de Clipperton ont participé à de nombreux projets collectifs et individuels.
Concerts en Suisse et en Europe, albums ou productions diverses leur ont permis d’acquérir l’expérience musicale qui est la leur aujourd’hui.
Le groupe Clipperton, formé en 2005, résulte du retour sur scène de 3 anciens membres du groupe Soap TV, 5 ans après sa séparation. Cette nouvelle formation, en trio cette fois-ci, se connaît donc déjà très bien et met rapidement sur pied un répertoire de compositions originales qu'il présente pour la première fois sur scène à la fin 2006.
L'année 2007 a été consacrée, à part quelques concerts en Suisse, à affirmer le style et à enregistrer 5 titres représentatifs des différentes facettes du groupe.
La musique de Clipperton, de style rock, power-pop voire disco-rock, est chantée en anglais et est inspirée de diverses tendances britanniques et américaines.
Riffs de guitare affirmés, voix typée ou de couleur vintage, rythmes aux grooves puissants et souvent dansants : tels sont les secrets de Clipperton.
En 2008, enregistrement de 5 nouveaux titres qui sont publiés gratuitement sur internet.
Tout en se produisant sur scène, le processus de composition se pousuit et aboutit à la réalisation d'un album de 11 titres. "Blighted Paradise" sort le le 30 mai 2009.
